Lancome Mascara
Review -- Make-up: Lancome Hypnose Mascara
if you're looking for a new mascara, stop what you are doing right now, and go get Lancome's new Hypnose Drama Mascara.
seriously.
this mascara is AMAZING! i even tweeted about it after the first time i used it-- it's that good. it makes my lashes look incredible, every single time i use it.
two weeks ago, i was at Sephora with a friend, and the conversation went like this:
her: "what are some of your favorite mascaras?"
me: "oh, i'm loving Lancome's new mascara. it's called Hypnose Drama..." then i proceeded to tell her about a couple more mascaras i liked from both drug and department stores.
her: "what are you wearing right now?"
me: had to think a second --"Hypnose"
her: "wow! that is good mascara-- i've been looking at your lashes today thinking they look great. they're so full and lush"
me: "thanks!"
another thing that fabulous about this mascara is that it doesn't flake or clump and washes off so easily at the end of the day.
here are the before and after pics:
with the Hypnose Drama, just on the top lashes
so if you want full, lush, amazing-looking lashes, get this. like now.
btw, i would have posted a pic of my own personal mascara (as i usually do), but my camera broke at some point between day 1 and 2 in nyc. thankfully, i took pics of my eyes before it kicked the bucket...
find Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara at your local Lancome beauty counter or shop online at sephora.com and lancome-usa.com

Bobbi Brown's new Creamy Lip Color $22.00 compliments the Bobbi Brown Brights Palette I reviewed in yesterday's blog post. These are already a fave of women who crave a lipstick that does more than just look good. These have soft, rich color, feel like silky on your lips, and have pampering, emollient Shea Butter and skin conditioner to actually improve your skin, not just sit on it! I've always been a huge fan of Bobbi's lip products for their high quality, high performance, and of course, great colors that look natural, but better!
There are four new colors: Retro Pink, Rose Brown, Coral Pink, and Pale Mauve. As with most of Bobbi Brown's color choices, these are fairly soft. Retro Pink, for example, is a sheer blush pink for your lips that works almost like a soft blush would...boosting your own color with just a hint of tint. Rose Brown is a universally flattering color that adds a bit more intensity but still doesn't overpower. Coral Pink is slightly brighter, Pale Mauve, more subdued.
The sleek, shiny black, angular lipstick cases project a fashion-forward look, and the slanted tip lets you apply this product properly. However, Bobbi suggests using a lip brush to get the most professional look. Follow the natural line of your mouth, and evenly cover upper and lower lip. For the most natural look, line and fill in lips with a Lip Liner shade that closes matches the Creamy Lip Color.
Then, add a boost of shine with a Lip Gloss. I have provided a chart above showing some of Bobbi's own suggestions for what to wear with each product.
There are also six new shades of Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss $20.00 in square pans: Guava, Coral Pink, Pink Cloud, True Beige, Cherry Pink, and Pink Beige. I didn't review these, but I've reviewed plenty of BB lip glosses past Advice Sisters What Works Beauty, Cosmetics and Fashion review columns, so check out more reviews in the archives going back to 1999.

Bobbi Brown Make Up
Bobbi Brown Makeup - WeddingTV
Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual is the book I wish I had years ago. It would have saved me countless of makeup disasters, stupid purchases and the entire dark age known as the 80s. Of course, all these years of experimenting are also responsible for my beauty obsession and the thought process that started and created this blog, so maybe it was not all bad. In any case, this book is probably among the most useful makeup tools one can have.
Bobbi Brown's approach to beauty and makeup has always been about letting the woman shine, making her look like the best possible version of herself. Her makeup line makes sense- the colors are pretty, flattering, wearable, and will never make one look like Katie Price or Shauna Sands. The great news is Bobbi Brown's latest endeavour, the Bobbi Brown University, a new program that will encompass the in-house training for the company’s artists plus college-level classes she developed for Montclair State and her alma mater, Emerson College. It would be fabulous to see more and more makeup artists trained according to Bobbi Brown and less of the parrot school of color application.
I got to hear Bobbi speaking about her vision, her school and her book a couple of weeks ago at an industry event, organized by Makeup Artist Magazine. It was a fun cocktail party for makeup artists and industry professionals which let everyone a chance to mix and mingle, meet Bobbi Brown and ask her questions. I brought my copy of the book and got her to sign it, which excited me quite a bit (I'm a nerd and have a serious thing for autographed books).
The book itself covers everything one needs and wants to know, from color choices to application techniques. There are thorough explanations of the types of brushes, including tips on choosing the right ones. Different skin types and complexions get the proper attention and coverage (I especially feel validated about a couple of my observation regarding my own skin tone and what's right for it), and the focus is always on working with nature and not against it.
The detailed instructions for everything from the proper way for applying foundation, covering blemishes and doing a dramatic smoky eye are absolutely priceless. Some of the photographs are breath-taking (you'd recognize many of them from Bobbi's various collections. They look so much better in high quality print and you get to appreciate the artistry) and would make you head straight to your mirror and start playing. The wealth of information is wonderful and is interesting and useful enough to hold the attention of even a seasoned makeup user.
I liked that there's a section about lifestyle and nutrition as the base for every beauty routine. What you eat and how you live shows in your face. Just look at Kate Moss or Amy Winehouse and then compare them to 51 year old Bobbi Brown herself.
I admit I only skimmed the chapters about becoming a makeup artist, and since I'm not really in that game, I can't comment about its usefulness for an industry pro. The history of makeup and the who's who sections were fun, though.

Lancome Chiffon Lipstick
Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Replenishing Lipcolor with SPF 12 ...
The latest lipstick created by French beauty label Lancôme is called L'Absolu Nu ($ 29.00), which has a soft and lightweight texture. L'Absolu Nu includes 16 shades that cover the lips with subtle and delicate hues, with a velvety, and almost nude finish.
L'Absolu Nu's range is in fact divided into three chromatics "families", that perfectly fit the different kinds of complexions.
L'Absolu Nu is a very nice to wear lipstick, thanks to its lightweight formula, and thanks to its colors, that aren't too much "heavy" on lips. It's the perfect lipstick if you want "naturally" tempting and charming lips.

Jane Iredale Spring 2009
I have no trouble with makeup for office or a night on the town, but what about casual days? When running errands, going to brunch, or having a glass of wine at sunset, it’s nice to look pulled together and pretty, but not too done up. For those times, here is a makeup look that is the makeup equivalent of a ponytail and takes less than five minutes.
# For a natural, lit-from-within glow, use In Touch Cream Blush. The Foundation Brush is ideal to apply and blend it. Swipe the brush across the end of the blush, and then smile to find the apples of your cheeks. Start applying the blush a tiny bit under the roundest part and blend up and out a bit. Fingers are fine too, but I find that I end up wiping off as much I put on.
# Next apply a bit of concealer. I love Active Light for this because it is subtle and brightens the whole eye area. Apply a bit in the dark circles (if you have them) and then in the inner and outer corners of the eye.
# Step three is foundation. Use your favorite, or if you haven’t tried it, you might like Dream Tint. It is sheer and easy to apply, either with your fingers or the Blending Brush.
# To bring out your eyes without looking made up, choose an Eye Gloss in a shade that complements your features – or your mood. Try Champagne Silk or Lilac Silk; or for darker skin tones, Brown Silk. Apply to the lid, lashes to crease, using the little doe-foot applicator. Dot it on and blend gently with the applicator. Then use your ring finger to blend around the edges and up into the crease. It’s OK (even good!) if a little bit creeps over into the corner of the eye; this will illuminate the area even more. Just remember a little goes a long way with this powerhouse product!
# Apply PureLash Extender & Conditioner and a coat or two of Longest Lash Mascara. There is no need to go all out, it should look soft.
# Step back several feet from the mirror. If your eyes need a bit more definition (or you still look sleepy), apply a bit of neutral colored Pencil, like Black/Grey or Black/Brown, into your lash line. No wings or cat’s eyes here! Just stick to defining the lash line. I like to swipe the Angle Definer Brush across the tip of the pencil and then wiggle it right along the roots of the lashes.
If you’ll be outdoors, be sure to apply Lip Drink first for your SPF, then swipe on some PureGloss. Tourmaline and Just Gloss are your most natural options, or for a bit more pop, use your favorite shade. Put your gloss in your purse or pocket and you're on your way.
